Early Life and Education

Sheryl Suzanne Crow was born on February 11, 1962, in Kennett, Missouri, the ninth of ten children of Bernice and Wendell Crow. Her father was a lawyer and a trumpet player, and her mother was a piano teacher and a social worker. She has two older sisters, Kathy and Karen, and a younger brother, Steven. She also has a great-grandfather who was a congressman, Charles A. Crow.

Crow grew up in a musical family and started playing piano at six. She also learned to play guitar, bass, harmonica, accordion, and ukulele. She was a majorette, an all-state track athlete in high school, and a member of various clubs and societies.
